The Story of the Previous Age

"He" existed

It is an unknown entity: whether it originated from something, where it came from, whether it is a life-form or a machine, or even an “entity that does not exist at all.”

His goal is to create a “more perfect” world. He supports the race he has chosen in achieving a perfect civilization by giving them an absolute tool called the Absolute Soul Core.

However, because "He" is strongly obsessed with his goal, this choice is a double-edged sword. If a civilization fails to develop into the state "He" desires, or if the Absolute Soul Core is used incorrectly, the Absolute Soul Core may destroy itself, or "He" may cause its power to run wild, destroy the civilization, and retrieve the Core.

He repeated these actions countless times, and according to scholars, the Great Destruction of the Honorable Age is also said to have occurred because the owner of the Absolute Soul Core ran wild.

Absolute Soul Core

It was a source of immense power and martial strength, a repository of knowledge, and a record of the rise and fall of various civilizations in the past. Special qualifications are required to use the Absolute Soul Core. Even those recognized as qualified are assigned a rank, and each rank grants access to different abilities. To date, the being recognized as the most “legitimate ruler” of the Absolute Soul Core was the Lord of Destruction, who brought the Great Destruction to the Honorable Age.

It is said that failing to use the Core incurs a tremendous cost. Records remain that those without the necessary qualifications who attempted to use the Core were unable to withstand its tremendous repulsive force, causing their bodies and selves to collapse. It is also said that illegally accessing the Absolute Soul Core carries a price for the access, but the details are unknown.

No one except those who obtain ASC can know what this Absolute Soul Core looks like or whether it even has a physical form, and according to one theory, it is absorbed into the genes of qualified individuals and passed down through their descendants.

Honorable Age

It is said to be the era when research into Force and Core Technology was most active. Considering that no records of the Lost Age remain from before then, it is regarded as the period in which the most advanced civilization to date developed.

During this period, a genius scientist named Faust completed the Unified Field Theory. The Unified Field Theory states that “all energy ultimately converges into the force called 5th Force, and using it can develop human abilities to near-infinite levels.”

Afterward, research into the 5th Force sparked an extreme craze. People ranging from young children to the elderly on the brink of death became so desperate to understand and use Force that they were practically obsessed.

Thus, before research into and understanding of Force had properly progressed and before formal educational institutions had even been established, superpowered individuals with outstanding abilities began appearing one after another.

They soon broke free of society’s confines and government institutions, and conflicts and incidents, both major and minor, occurred endlessly throughout the world.

The turmoil in the world grew increasingly severe among those who possessed power, those who did not, those seeking power, and those striving to preserve the existing order; ultimately, the governments of every nation established special agencies and decided to control information on all science and technology, including Force.

Using military force, the government indiscriminately purged unauthorized psychics while simultaneously conducting experiments on the 5th Force for military purposes.

Politicians feared that someone other than themselves might possess such powerful abilities. These fears naturally led to research into military weapons intended to take human lives.

Various experiments were conducted under strict surveillance and security. Ordinary people were sacrificed in indiscriminate experiments. Those who learned of this became enraged that the government was trying to cover their eyes and ears to satisfy its own greed.

The people began holding protests, demanding that “human experimentation be stopped immediately” and that “information be shared.” Faust, the discoverer of the 5th Force, also actively participated in the protests. Faust felt deep hostility, betrayal, and disgust toward the government, which had monopolized and seized the fruits of his research contrary to its original intent.

As the protests intensified, the government hired a figurehead scientist to speak for its interests and promised, at least outwardly, to meet the people’s demands; at the same time, it framed Faust for a crime and eliminated him.

Afterward, rumors about Faust abounded—“he died,” “he became insane,” or “he fled overseas”—but no one could see him. The story of the genius scientist who completed unified field theory at a young age was also gradually buried by time and forgotten.

The government thereafter actively encouraged the establishment of Academies, legitimate institutions for learning psychic abilities, and Academies of various sizes began appearing in every country. For the government, it was much easier to maintain control if ordinary people were allowed to learn only what had been “permitted.”

One day, mysterious threatening letters arrived at the governments of every nation from people who called themselves “Prometheus.” Their demands were as follows.

The governments, blinded by greed and monopolizing knowledge, were to disclose all information and set the people free, and halt all military experiments being conducted for purposes of destruction; otherwise, they would resort to terrorism.

The government dismissed this as nonsense, but a terrorist attack actually occurred. The paranormal science institutes and the pro-government, state-sponsored Academy organizations in every nation were destroyed. Convinced that Academy organizations dissatisfied with the government were behind it, the governments of every nation formed the “Terror Eradication Alliance” and began a sweeping crackdown on Academy organizations.

It was the prelude to an event that would unleash a bloodbath. As the conflict between the government and the people continued alongside Prometheus’s terrorism, revelations that “even children had been used in human experiments to create military weapons” followed, eventually leading to a large-scale bloodbath.

One day. When the people, exhausted from a brutal war with neither winners nor losers, were at their limit. The Great Destruction occurred.

The Great Destruction, and Saint Valentine

The Great Destruction lasted for 7 days. According to legend, monsters never before seen in the world appeared endlessly from the skies and the earth, destroying civilization and harming people, while global natural disasters, tidal waves, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and more occurred simultaneously.

Humanity died without ever knowing why this had happened or who had caused it. The priceless knowledge of Honorable Energy and the flourishing culture and arts all disappeared, while the remaining goods and various records were buried deep beneath the shattered earth.

During the Great Destruction period, even superhuman ability users were unable to use any power, and people lost their lives while resisting meaninglessly in terror.

All these events became known through the 7 Sages, who saved the people after the Great Destruction. The 7 Sages were graduates of the Academy of Saint Valentine, and the title Saint was bestowed after Valentine's death.

Saint Valentine suddenly appeared when Academies were springing up everywhere, established a small Academy, and accepted talented people regardless of their backgrounds, training them to become superhuman ability users.

Seven of his disciples who had achieved the most outstanding accomplishments led the people in accordance with Saint Valentine's will after his death, and they soon came to be known as the 7 Sages.

Saint Valentine claimed that the Great Destruction on that day had been brought about by an entity known as the Lord of Destruction. Although he used the name Lord of Destruction so that ordinary people could understand it intuitively, he also made the incomprehensible claim that it was actually the King of Destruction and, at the same time, the King of Creation.

He said that the Lord of Destruction would not stop destroying until this world had completely returned to nothingness, so Saint Valentine decided to sacrifice himself to seal the Lord of Destruction. It is said that two of his disciples were beside Saint Valentine at the moment of the Lord of Destruction's sealing, but nothing is known about whether they were among the 7 Sages or, if so, which ones they were.

Through Saint Valentine's sacrifice, the world was saved from the brink of annihilation, and the survivors followed the 7 Sages, guardians of civilization, to Nevareth, the land of a civilization forgotten because of the past Lost Age, where they established a new civilization.

The people of present-day Nevareth decided to call the ancestors who created today's Nevareth despite all kinds of hardships the Nevareth Frontier.

Those who set out on the road, the Nevareth Frontier

Saint Valentine is said to have issued a warning just before losing his life after sealing the Lord of Destruction. It was a prophecy that the Lord of Destruction would be resurrected 1,000 years later, when Saint Valentine's power was depleted.

Having sensed that the time foretold in the prophecy was approaching, Sage Tower began establishing Special Administration Colonies on each continent under the leadership of Sage Sirius.

The Special Administration Colonies were established in locations on each continent famous for their harsh climatic conditions, and skilled officers and instructors were dispatched to train new warriors in preparation for the Lord of Destruction's future resurrection.

Sage Tower also began revealing various forms of forbidden knowledge of Honorable Energy that had previously been withheld from ordinary people, and encouraged all Nevarethians to train their bodies and minds. As a result, warriors interested in training in Force gathered at the Special Administration Colonies.

No one could be certain whether the Lord of Destruction truly existed, whether it would really return when the time came, or whether, if so, we too would face the Great Destruction as in the Honorable Age, but the warriors did not want to miss any information about Force.

At that time, a volcanic eruption occurred on Exilian Island, which had long been abandoned, and Sage Sirius ordered that a Special Administration Colony be established there as well. As soon as Port Lux, the fourth Special Administration Colony, was built on Exilian Island, Sage Sirius suddenly disappeared.

The story begins amid large-scale disappearances occurring across the entire continent, while the Sage Tower searches for the next Sage Sirius, whom they believe has already died.

Captain Mark, who lives in Desert Scream, a special management colony of the Huan Continent, asks Patren and his companions, who have set out following their destiny, to help save the world, calling them the “Warrior's Star” that had been waiting for “me.”

Lost Age

Overview

An entirely lost age in the truest sense, with no records or stories passed down. Lost Age (The Lost Age). It is impossible to determine whether the beings that existed on this land during that age were truly human.

1st Civilization: Formation and Destruction

• B.C. ????? The first plan was executed by “him.” He intervened in the formation of the ultra-ancient civilization, the 1st Civilization.
• B.C. 1xxxx Acknowledged the failure of the 1st Civilization. Carried out the purification work in stages.
• B.C. 96xx Triggered tectonic shifts, completing the purification of the 1st Civilization by sinking the smallest continent, the homeland of the most powerful faction.

The characteristics of the 1st Civilization are as follows.

1. They used “Aether,” the power closest to the lost divinity, through ASC, which had been passed down by “him.”
2. They ruled the world through the use of “Aether.”
3. They were particularly advanced in genetic engineering, using life-span extension and powerful biological weapons. They even modified other humans and used them as weapon slaves.
4. They were also capable of operating gigantic aircraft, and individuals could wield supernatural phenomena later known as “magic.”
5. They had even ventured into space.
6. They developed an ASC Controller (codename: Babel) and attempted to control the power of ASC.

However, the 1st Civilization fell into internal conflict and clashed with one another because of “lust for power,” one of the ordeals involved in restoring the lost divinity. They gradually came to perceive “Aether” not as a path toward divinity but as “power,” and even sought to control the souls of others. As a result, “He” decided to purify not only the civilization but also corrupted souls. In the end, almost no survivors of the 1st Civilization remained. However, traces of it were left in various places.

The legends of the many monsters born during the 2nd and 3rd Civilizations were created by entities that had not been properly isolated during the purification of the 1st Civilization. However, most of the monsters remaining in the world gradually disappeared at the hands of descendants of the 2nd Civilization who had turned their backs on the world in the darkness. The arcana containing various paranormal abilities account for only a very small portion of the records of ASC. The Emerald Tablet and the Necronomicon were no exception. Many things dismissed as “fictional stories” or “legends” in the 3rd Civilization often involved the descendants of the 1st and 2nd Civilizations or the existence of bizarre lifeforms—monsters. Some survivors formed the prototypes of CABAL (CRF and GoR), indirectly intervened in the destruction of the 2nd Civilization, and ruled the 3rd Civilization from the shadows.

The Formation and Destruction of the 2nd Civilization

• B.C. 9xxx Execution of “His” second plan.

The characteristics of the 2nd Civilization are as follows.

1. They realized the importance of the mental ability to handle the “Law” and prioritized imparting the “Dao.”
2. Except for some people, they were unable to properly attain the “Dao.”
3. Even those who attained the “Dao” distanced themselves from the world.
4. “Apostles” seeking to attain the “Dao” through expedients emerged.
5. There was no sign of the “proper path” being restored.
6. Ultimately, it was decided that purification would be achieved by cutting off all “Dao” from the world.

“He” referred to the example of the 1st Civilization and emphasized mental maturity in the 2nd Civilization, but this too ended in failure. Judging that the civilization could not be restored, “He” decided to purify even the 2nd Civilization. Because the 2nd Civilization emphasized the development of the mind over material aspects, almost no traces remained on the surface. Its survivors scattered in all directions.

Honorable Age

Overview

This was a period in which a highly advanced civilization existed before the Great Destruction. The Honorable Age was an era in which the power of parascience existed. It is said that the ancients not only freely wielded the powers of parascience, “mana” and “ki,” but also created mechanical life and manipulated living beings. Ruins and artifacts from this era are still being discovered throughout the continent, and occupations dedicated to these excavations have emerged. Unlike other eras of the Lost Age, it is the only era remembered in Nevareth.

Formation of the 3rd Civilization

On the surface, the 3rd Civilization was the same as the history we know. However, its underside was riddled with all kinds of hidden agendas and schemes. The survivors of the 1st Civilization and 2nd Civilization operated in secret within the 3rd Civilization. There are only suspicions that they intervened in several events appearing in history, unofficial histories, and other traditions. It was also from this point that the history of Prometheus truly began. Instead of “the Law” and “the Way,” Prometheus sought to develop rational “learning” and “arts” in a direction that would further strengthen the already transmitted “rationality.” Humans continued developing numerous fields of study based on “rationality” and “reason.” In response, “he” judged that humans were developing in a direction that would qualify them to approach “the Way” and “the Law.” “He” decided to use beings that had already been forgotten as a means of conveying the powers he had given to humans and later taken back. The fading beings were divided into two groups, and they checked each other in the world. One sought powerful power and dominion, while the other sought power and dominion to stop the blood flowing from them. Since “he” had not yet determined the advantages and disadvantages of the influence of “the rule of the few” in creating a perfect world, he did not consider their possession of powerful power itself important. Instead, he judged that it was sufficient if they effectively checked each other and helped achieve his purpose. “He” conveyed to them a method of obtaining power and arranged it so that it would be possible only if the two worked together. CRF and GoR merged, and an organization called Prometheus was born.

Destruction of the 3rd Civilization

Prometheus plotted to accelerate the development of human civilization. They found and raised the Child of Destiny, Faust, who would fulfill their aspirations, and Faust completed the Unified Field Theory. As a result, all energy became unified as "Force". The emergence of occult science—the combination of superhuman abilities and science—led to the birth of superhuman civilization. However, with the existence of new energy sources and military power, the power structure underwent rapid upheaval. In the case of users with exceptionally powerful superhuman abilities, they escaped society's boundaries and restraints, causing the chaos to grow.

Great Destruction

Overview

It refers to the catastrophe said to have been brought about by the arrogance of the ancient civilization. On that day, as the Lord of Destruction descended, the ancient civilization was destroyed by natural disasters, war, and turmoil, resulting in countless casualties.

Progress

According to the records, all kinds of disasters occurred over the course of a week.

At the end of the ancient super-scientific civilization, humanity's arrogance brought disaster.

On the day pillars of fire rose from the earth and lightning fell from the sky, bringing down all human kings, the demon among demons, Prometheus, appeared and unleashed disaster.

On the first day, a new form covered every insect and beast in the world, transforming them into ferocious creatures that attacked humanity.

On the second day, the dead and spirits rose from the earth, bringing the living to their deaths.

On the third day, mechanical monsters descended from the sky, and humans of soft flesh and warm blood could not dare oppose them.

On the fourth day, those among humanity beguiled humans, causing parents to harm their children and wives their husbands. People could no longer trust one another and trembled in terror, alone.

On the fifth day, the sea spewed fire and the earth split apart. The sea became land and the land became sea, and all things caused by humanity were swept into the sea and buried in the earth.

On the sixth day, water and dust covered the sky, the light disappeared, and despair covered the world.

Conclusion

Great Destruction (The Descent) ended when Saint Valentine, teacher of the first 7 Sages, sacrificed himself in the Land of Ice and sealed Lord of Destruction Prometheus. This is called the Seal. However, after the sealing was complete, the world's civilizations had been destroyed beyond recovery. The survivors began migrating to the continents of another world under the guidance of the 7 Sages. This is called Nevareth Exodus.

Nevareth Exodus

Overview

It refers to the migration of people who survived the Great Destruction to the continent of Nevareth under the guidance of the 7 Sages (Nevareth Exodus). During the long journey until they settled on the three continents of Nevareth, people naturally formed groups, among which leaders emerged. They spread across the continent with their respective followers and began building places to live.

Nevareth Frontier

Overview

This refers to the first people of Nevareth who followed the 7 Sages after the Seal of the Lord of Destruction and built cities and nations on the three continents of Nevareth (Nevareth Frontier). When commonly used, it appears in phrases such as “like the Nevareth Frontier,” meaning “one must not lose hope no matter how desperate the situation” or “even if everything is lost, having the will to start again is enough.” According to records, the population in the first year of the Sage Era (Sages Calendar)—that is, the population of the Nevareth Frontier—was 11,664. Other surviving records state that the world population reached 10 billion before the Great Cataclysm, revealing how many ancients were sacrificed by demons.

Battle Age

Overview

This was the era in which the 4th Civilization began after the fall of the Honorable Age. The survivors of the 3rd Civilization who migrated to the newly emerged continent of Nevareth had to fight against the six clans that constantly attacked them and the harsh natural environment, so naturally their way of life differed greatly from what they had known. To represent their life of struggle, they came to call this era the Battle Age (Battle Age).

The survivors of the 3rd Civilization took refuge in some undersea Colony settlements via shuttles during the Exodus and settled on a newly formed continent at the end of the catastrophe. However, with all electronic devices destroyed by powerful magnetic storms, they could not determine their exact location. As a result, the survivors did not know that parts of the continent of the 3rd Civilization remained. As the 4th Civilization developed, they discovered that the relics remaining in the world belonged to an ancient civilization, but they were unable to distinguish whether it was the Honorable Age or the Lost Age.

4th Civilization

The 4th Civilization was essentially free from the intervention of “Him” (The Beholder).

Nevareth, the cradle of the 4th Civilization, was in a serious state. The Earth's crust was distorted by gigantic tidal waves and abnormal weather caused by the fall of the 3rd Civilization. The subsidence of continents and uplift of the seafloor occurred irregularly. In the midst of this, most of the 3rd Civilization, where most of humanity lived, sank beneath the sea. As a result, the new continent of Nevareth became a mixture of continents that had sunk during the fall of the newly emerging 1st Civilization, portions of the continents of the 3rd Civilization that had not sunk, and some of the 3rd Civilization's undersea Colonies. In other words, the legacies of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Civilizations lie buried throughout Nevareth. However, virtually no traces of the 2nd Civilization remain because they did not focus on material development. Thus, only the legacies of the 1st Civilization's ultra-ancient civilization and the 3rd Civilization's super-scientific civilization remain in Nevareth.

Sage Era

Overview

A calendar system beginning from the point when humanity settled on the three continents of present-day Nevareth after the Great Cataclysm, its origin lies in the Sage Era (Sage曆), created by the first 7 Sages to honor Saint Valentine, the Sage among Sages who sealed the demons and was their teacher. Later, the chieftains who founded cities with extensive help from the Sage Tower changed its name to the Sage Era (Sages曆) at the “Nevareth Continental Council” as an expression of gratitude to the 7 Sages.
