Colony
Overview
Before humanity settled in Nevareth, monsters existed everywhere in Nevareth. People fought constantly to secure areas in which to live from them, but the monsters continued to appear even after being defeated. Whenever people defeated one enemy and relaxed, a spatial rift would open somewhere and monsters would burst out of it, repeating the cycle. In the meantime, people discovered that this phenomenon (Monster Spawn) did not occur in certain areas and settled there. Humanity then searched for habitable regions (Spawn-off Area) to expand that territory and developed Colonies in this way.
Types of Colony
- Habitation Colony
- Production Colony
- Combat Colony (Battle Colony): Combat Colonies are located at the outermost edges of each Polis territory, where they serve to monitor and defend against incursions by the Evil Zone. Even though nearly a thousand years have passed since the Nevareth Exodus, uncharted regions and the Evil Zone still account for more than 70% of the world. In this reality, these Combat Colonies are places where death is more familiar than life. In the past, some of them were also the origins of several Polises. A Combat Colony has now been completed in Port Lux, while battles to construct Combat Colonies are raging in several locations. Combat Colonies serve as outposts for the people of Nevareth to venture across the entire continent and as the final bastions protecting them from monsters.
- Special Combat Colony (Special Battle Colony): At the NCC (Nevareth Continental Council) in the year 890 of the Sage Era, shortly before the year 900, a message arrived from the Sage Tower. It requested the installation of a Combat Colony for surveillance purposes near certain areas of Nevareth where danger was sensed. In response, the Nevareth Academy coalition had a nearby Polis construct a Combat Colony at the specified location and dispatched defense forces, including an officer assigned to the Combat Colony and training instructors, to improve the warriors' abilities against the approaching threat. The Colony began recruiting new warriors, training them, and strengthening its defenses at the same time. However, because no particularly powerful monsters had appeared at the three Combat Colonies constructed in this way, they eventually became places guarded only by trainees. Once the crisis had been resolved, each Polis began reducing its supplies, and the Colonies became little more than base camps for minimal guard forces and monster hunters, like other Combat Colonies. These three Combat Colony training camps were built one on each continent: one in the extreme northeastern region of Midress, one on the edge of the scorching Desert Palace facing Esca south of Juan, and the last in the remote jungle north of Liber, northeast of Pastur.
First Special Combat Colony
Overview
A Combat Colony built at the northeastern tip of Polis Hellenia. Its official name is “Polis Hellenia's 1st Special Combat Colony.” However, people call it “Bloody Ice” to reflect the terrible harshness of its cold.
Environment
It is not a newly established Combat Colony. Like any pioneering village, it grew around a small mining village, but when the Sage Tower came to investigate in 890, all that remained were an uninhabited village and machines operating without owners.
Because there were no signs of danger, most of the village's residents are now monsters of a suitable level, trainees who train against them, and monster hunters who make their living through them. No further mining is being conducted at the coal mine either.
North of the village is a coal mine, a snowy region dense with conifers lies to the northwest, and a region of death covered in smooth ice lies to the northeast. Since the area is extremely cold, safe zones and camps have also been established in various places, despite the danger. The village houses are made of thick logs and are said to be the buildings that stood there at the time of the expedition.
Because of the harsh cold, the natural landscape has remained relatively intact. As a result, many travelers come to explore the vast snowfields despite the cold and monsters posing even a threat to life.
Others
Clothing is difficult to obtain even from Polis Helenia because transportation is inconvenient and procuring supplies is not easy, so most people make and wear suitable winter clothing from animal skins and fur. Since the monsters that appear are as powerful as the cold, Armor Suits are considered essential even in everyday life.
Second Special Combat Colony
Overview
A special combat colony located in the southern desert of Polis Judin. Its official name is ‘Polis Judin's 2nd Special Combat Colony’.
Environment
The people, weary of this place’s desolation and scorching heat, began calling the desert sandstorm by its nickname, Desert Scream, instead of the Colony’s name, and it became the common name. This place was formed around a massive oasis called Palace Desert, with settlements built around it, and is said to have once been a sea. Apart from the oasis, there is nothing but large and small sand dunes in every direction, and monsters also appear there, making it difficult to endure without considerable mental fortitude.
Nevertheless, the area has long seen considerable traffic because of its enormous salt desert—the only one of its kind on the entire continent—and its high-quality salt. In addition, District 5, which was under the administration of Polis Judin’s 13th Resource Colony, was an oil field here. However, its profitability had already declined more than a decade ago, turning it into an abandoned oil field. The abandoned oil field is now used as a cemetery.
Others
During an expedition, ancient ruins were discovered near Desert Scream. Since they were discovered only recently and are located near a Combat Colony where monsters appear, a full-scale investigation has not yet begun. The ancient ruins contain scattered stone structures of unknown purpose, statues depicting people, and altars (or objects that appear to be altars).
The predominant clothing style is the standard Juan style, and because of the threat posed by monsters, many people can be seen wearing Martial Suits as everyday clothing.
Third Special Combat Colony
Overview
A special combat colony located in the central eastern region of the Pastur Continent. Its official name is ‘Polis Industria's Third Special Combat Colony’.
Environment
The central eastern region of the Pastur Continent is covered by a vast forest. It is called the Forest of Nostalgia (or the World Tree Forest). The Combat Colony is located in a corner of this great forest, in a hot and humid jungle region. People call this Colony ‘Green Despair’. Originally, ‘Green Despair’ was the name of an endemic disease with a high fatality rate found in this jungle region. The chronicles of Nevareth contain accounts of expeditions into this area—the great forest—and every one of them mentions Green Despair. It is said that when one trainee from the Colony’s early days contracted the disease and showed signs of recovery, the first thing they said was that even Green Despair was less terrible than the grueling training course.
People call this Colony “Green Despair.” Originally, “Green Despair” was the name of an endemic disease with a high mortality rate in this jungle region. Throughout the Nevareth Chronicles, there are accounts of expeditions to the Great Forest, and every one of them mentions Green Despair. It is said that when a trainee from the early days of the Colony contracted the disease and showed signs of recovery, the first thing they said was that even Green Despair was not as terrible as the training course.
A great river runs across the Great Forest, with tributaries winding throughout the forest like blood vessels. During construction, the expedition explored along these tributaries and discovered traces of many pioneer villages. However, no inhabitants could be found, and the cause is presumed to have been the terrible natural environment, monsters, endemic diseases, or the like. Traces of such pioneer villages also remain around the Colony, but most have now become lairs for monsters.
Other noteworthy features include an area called “Red Jungle” and the “Young Tree of Life” trees. Like the Red Desert among the deserts, Red Jungle is a jungle with an extremely harsh environment where it is difficult for living creatures to survive. All that can be seen are gloomy red soil, grotesquely mutated plants, and enormous, hideous insects. The expedition also discovered traces of a pioneer village here, and upon learning that the traces dated back only a short time, cautiously concluded that Red Jungle was expanding for “some reason.”
The “Young Tree of Life” trees are not as enormous as the distant, hazily visible Tree of Life, but they are still sufficiently large. Several were discovered around the Colony. Although the expedition could not confirm whether they were the same species as the “Tree of Life,” they judged that this was possible and gave them that name.
Others
The clothing consists of garments in a style that is shorter and lighter than the clothing formerly used in Industria. In the early days, they had no choice but to procure and sell clothing brought in from outside the distant forest, but as more people have recently begun traveling to and from the area, the number of local clothing makers has also increased.
Port Lux Battle Colony
Overview
A combat Colony built by Sage Tower.
History
Following the battle on Exilian Island|Exilian Island, several attempts were made to land on Exilian Island under the leadership of Sage Tower, with the aim of constructing a Colony. As a result, one was built on the cliffs along the western coast of Exilian Island, but access was rare because of the monsters.
After a trade route between Hellenia and Industria was established in Sage Era 1000, voyages began taking place near the Sea of Evil. As a result, Port Lux on Exilian Island became active as an intermediate hub for the trade route, in addition to serving research purposes concerning the Sea of Evil.
As the area grew crowded, research on Exilian Island also accelerated dramatically. The greatest achievement was the discovery of a massive ark located in the center of Exilian Island. Some people claimed to have seen “ghost sailors” around the ark, but these are merely rumors unsupported by evidence.
Reports of monster sightings, such as sightings of monsters with multiple legs, are submitted to the Sage Tower|Sage Tower Port Lux|Port Lux branch, but no one has brought in any evidence. The monsters appearing on Exilian Island are said to resemble aquatic creatures and demons, and are presumed to emerge constantly from the volcanic crater.
