Sage Tower
Overview
Three continents rising from the sea Now that everything from the ancient civilizations has disappeared A new human history begins there
The Sage Tower gave humanity the knowledge needed for a new history and two kinds of power to protect them from monsters.
The power of “Ki,” wielded through the sword, freed humans from fear of monsters, while the power of “Mana,” which could control nature, reversed the positions of humans and monsters.
In exchange for losing their brilliant civilization, humans were given the opportunity to rebuild in peace and stability.
The people who spread across the three continents expanded their territories along with the two powers,
developing different cultures as they went and quickly adapting to the new world
Thus, the limited thousand years of peace came to an end.
After the Seal, the tower built in the Land of Ice to watch over the Seal was its origin.
Beginning with the first 7 Sages enabling humanity of the present day to settle on the three continents and form city-states, the 7 Sages of each era have served as humanity’s spiritual leaders by protecting humankind from danger and disseminating power, knowledge, and technology.
The Sages do not intervene in the politics of individual nations, but are unequivocally the greatest power in Nevareth.
Sage Era 680, after establishing a branch in the Midreth Continent, the organization expanded, and branches are now located in all major cities of every nation.
Incidentally, although the name may cause some confusion, Sage Tower is not actually a tower. The internal organizations of Sage Tower are simply called “floors.” The managers of each branch are called Floor Masters. The tower in the Land of Ice where the 7 Sages reside is called the 7th Floor, and only a very small number of people can access it.
The organization also produces and distributes books about Nevareth. The Cultural Affairs Department on the 4th Floor compiles an encyclopedia; since the first edition was published in 101, 19 revised editions have been published over 120 years. Each edition appears to contain new material.
After defeating the Lord of Destruction, Sage Tower was dissolved.
Tower Organizational Structure
- 7th Floor: The true nature of Sage Tower. It is located in the Land of Ice to guard the demon’s Seal, and the 7 Sages reside there. Other than the 7 Sages, the only person who can access it is the Floor Master of the 6th Floor (層主: Floor Master).
- 6th Floor: Refers to the headquarters branch of the Outer Tower. In 680, the first branch established in Hellenia served in this role, but as the organization grew, the headquarters branch moved to Judin, in the center of Nevareth, in 712. It oversees all Outer Tower operations, but nothing is known about its independent duties.
- 5th Floor: As the continental branches of the Outer Tower, they are located in Liber in Pastrule and in Hellenia in Midreth; on the Huan Continent, they are located in Judin together with the 6th Floor. They oversee the operations of the branches under each continent and independently have departments related to ancient history.
- 4th Floor: These are branches of the Outer Tower in Polis, with all nine located in the [1]nine major cities. However, in Judin, where the 6th Floor is located, the 6th and 5th Floors are in the main building on the outskirts of the city, while the 4th Floor is in an annex next to City Hall. It maintains a close relationship with Polis City Hall and oversees the operations of the subordinate branches within Polis’s sphere of influence. It is responsible for all academic fields except ancient history.
- 3rd Floor: Located in the nine major cities where Academy exists, or in the Colony areas bordering the demon realm. They are responsible for matters related to abilities, that is, combat techniques. They transfer ability-related information authorized by the upper floors of the tower to municipal Academy and the public, or manage information about monsters.
- 2nd Floor: Located in major [2]Colonies, with one officer assigned to each Colony. They are responsible for matters related to the citizens’ daily lives and the economy.
- 1st Floor: Present in every Colony, they collect information requested by the upper floors and handle complaints regarding the tower in the Colony.
Sage Tower Terminology
- 7 Sages: The masters of Sage Tower and its supreme decision-making body.
- Floor Masters: There are six Floor Masters, from the 6th Floor through the 1st Floor, and each is the highest authority on their floor. The Floor Master of the 6th Floor is called the 8th Sage (8th Sage).
- Inner Tower: Another term for the 7th Floor. It is used in contrast to the Outer Tower.
- Outer Tower: Used collectively for floors 1 through 6. It is an organization that interacts with the Nevareth continent.
- Outer Tower Council: The highest decision-making body of Outer Tower, that is, all branches of Sage Tower.
Floor Master
Overview
Sage Tower, meaning the administrators of each branch. There are six Floor Masters from the sixth floor through the first floor, and each Floor Master is the highest authority on their floor. Due to this characteristic, the Floor Master of the sixth floor is also sometimes called the eighth Sage (8th Sage).
Sage
Overview
In general, this refers to the 7 Sages belonging to Sage Tower, but it is not a title used exclusively by them. As the Academy established in each city grew, it began producing many outstanding individuals. As people began using the term Sage for the exceptional individuals among them, they were sometimes called Master Sages to distinguish them from the 7 Sages. The Floor Master of the sixth floor of Sage Tower is also called the 8th Sage.
Nevareth Continental Council
Overview
This refers to a decision-making body where Sages dispatched from all city-states across the world and Sage Tower gather for conferences, or to such a gathering (Nevareth Continental Council, NCC). The first NCC is said to have been held in Judin on the Huan Continent the year after eight settlement cities were established, with the heads of the eight cities and one of the 7 Sages (which of the seven is unknown) gathered together. At that time, it had not yet been named the Nevareth Continental Council. This first gathering led to the establishment of the official Nevareth Continental Council (Nevareth Continental Council), in which the heads of the eight cities met every ten years to resolve various issues affecting all humanity. After Vedas became independent from Colony in 372, and after Vedas was recognized as a Polis at the NCC of 380, the nine Polises became the principal parties of the NCC and remain so to this day. The major matters decided at the first NCC were as follows.
- A new calendar system was established. The Ancient Calendar was abolished, and the Sage Era was adopted. (The year in which the Lord of Destruction was sealed by Saint Valentine was designated as the first year of the Sage Era.)
- It was decided to use the title “Saint” for Saint Valentine, the teacher of the 7 Sages.
- It was decided to use the same currency and weights and measures.
- It was decided to use a self-governing system organized by city.
- Noninterference in the internal affairs of other cities was established as a principle.
- An agreement was made to establish a strong cooperation system against humanity's enemies.
- The same decision-making assembly shall be held every 10 years. It shall be called the “Nevareth Continental Council.” The location shall rotate among the eight cities.
However, the NCC attended by the 7 Sages continued only through the second NCC. There, the representatives of the 7 Sages declared that the 7 Sages would no longer participate in the policies of each city, would enter seclusion in the Land of Ice to guard the Seal, and that their descendants would continue to provide assistance in the future.
Capella Federation
Overview
The faction of Sage Capella that exists on the Pastur Continent. Sage Capella works toward creating an egalitarian society where every Nevarethian can receive fair results proportional to their efforts. People who support this cause gathered around Capella and formed a faction.
The Capella Federation advocates distributing the Sages' legacy to ordinary people and rejects the outdated things of the past. It claims that the privileged Sage Tower is no longer necessary and that Nevareth should become a place where everyone is equal.
It believes that, to achieve this, the information that the Sage Tower and Polis have controlled until now must be disclosed to the public. The idea is that if everyone can freely use the Force, the privileged class will disappear. In other words, the Capella Federation focuses on the efficient distribution and sharing of resources and goods.
Procyon
Overview
The faction of Sage Procyon that exists on the Huan Continent. Sage Procyon advocates creating a society led by a single, exceptionally capable and powerful leader. Procyon also advocates using the Sages' legacy to create the finest possible leader. It would be a union government ruled by a single Sage.
The supporters believe that, as Procyon says, everyone can live well under a government firmly led by an outstanding leader. Procyon also believes that, unlike Capella, the Sage Tower should be inherited rather than abolished.
Academy
Overview
It is an educational institution found in each country. It is divided into the liberal arts, practical studies, and combat studies departments. Each department offers beginner-level and advanced courses. The liberal arts department teaches the humanities and natural sciences, the practical studies department teaches engineering and accounting, and the combat studies department teaches magic and swordsmanship. There is also a research institute as a higher-level system above the departments. Unlike the departments, the research institute belongs to the fourth floor of the Sage Tower.
Guild (Guilds)
Overview
It is an association of the various professions. It is believed to have borrowed its name from ancient knowledge. Mage Guild, Information Guild, and Thief Guilds exist.
Types of Guilds
- Merchant Guild: An association established to protect the interests of merchants in each Polis or Colony. Some Guilds cover a single Colony, while others influence multiple Polises. Representative Guilds include this, this, and this.
- Mage Guild[1](The Truth Seeker): A small number of chosen mages belonged to the Sage Tower and conducted research in their fields of interest at Academy laboratories, but most mages could not do so. The group formed by these people to conduct magical research became the Mage Guild. Given the way they developed, their level was initially much lower than that of the Academy, but they can now be said to be nearly equal.
- Information Guild (The Association of Information Agent): Although it is called the Information Guild, it is actually the Thief Guild. The Sage Tower, which had developed Nevareth under strict control using the best possible methods, was still unable to avoid trial and error because its members were human, and dissatisfied factions and marginalized groups emerged in the process. Unable to express their will and desires through legitimate means, they began adopting covert methods of action, the most representative being the Thief. From those who began stealing because they could not overcome poverty, to those buried by society after suffering injustice and those who lost everything in an unfortunate accident, they began joining forces for their interests, and as their numbers grew, an organization was formed. That is the present Thief Guild. They operate under strict mutual secrecy to meticulously achieve their goals, and although it is a covert Guild, it is one of the influential organizations that even Nevareth's actual powers, such as each Polis and the Sage Tower, cannot deal with recklessly. Even so, because such a covert Guild cannot be officially recognized, it is called the "Information Guild," and its role is limited to simply providing information.
- Mercenary: What initially referred to people who wanted to walk their own paths freely, rescuing people in difficult situations during their adventures and receiving compensation, came to refer to people who had become more professional and made it their purpose to resolve clients' requests for a fixed fee. Because they are exposed to many risks, many aspiring warriors also serve as Mercenaries for a certain period for training. As an organization that manages lists of Mercenary Corps and Mercenaries not belonging to a Mercenary Corps, and handles contract referrals and information provision, it maintains branches across the entire continent for effective operations.
- Mercenary Corps: A group formed by Mercenaries who felt limited when acting alone or in small numbers, under a common purpose to perform their work more systematically. Some Mercenary Corps consist of only a few members, while others have more than a thousand. Among them, the two major Mercenary Corps known as this and this are also organizations with considerable political influence. The Mercenary Guild is jointly managed by personnel drawn from these powerful Mercenary Corps, the so-called Ten Great Mercenary Corps.
- Treasure Hunter Guild (The Chasers of Ancient Legacy): More than 1,000 years have passed since the ancient civilization fell and the new civilization of Nevareth was built with the help of the Sage Tower. Although many scholars devoted their lives to researching the ancient civilization, it still has not revealed its secrets. Ancient relics discovered from time to time were so mysterious, beyond astonishing, that many people could not escape their allure. Some sought immense wealth, while others sought great power, and countless adventurers spent their lives wandering in search of ancient legacies. People called them Treasure Hunters. At first, the Treasure Hunters, who died one after another relying only on romance and passion amid uncertain information, naturally gathered together and began sharing information and skills. Thus, the Treasure Hunter Guild, a group of adventurers specializing in the exploration and excavation of ancient relics, was formed. They have wealthy patrons interested in ancient relics and sometimes carry out commissions from the Sage Tower or Polis.
- The Romance of Expedition: A group of explorers who wish to venture into the open sea
- Hunter's Guild (Hunter’s Guild Association): A symbolic organization representing all Hunters on each continent. In reality, the Hunter's Guilds in the nine Polis are the highest-ranking organizations. More than 900 years have passed in the Sage Era, and the Hunters' influence has become impossible to ignore, with Hunter offices not only in each Polis but also in the Colonies.
- ↑ In reality, it has been controlled by Prometheus since some point.
