Various incidents occurred across the Nevareth continent while I was being appointed as a special trainee. War nearly broke out between Judin and Medenark, and a real dispute occurred among the merchant guilds. Desert Scream Guard Tteggi informs me that there is also a rumor that mutant monsters attacked a merchant guild. Officer Dunhaik tells me that it is not merely a rumor but the truth. However, it cannot be blindly believed, so the situation requires investigation. Dunhaik asks me to obtain a monster sample. At his request, I obtain a sample of a monster identical to the Giant Snake submitted by the merchant guild. However, it seems impossible to distinguish them with the naked eye.

Dunhaik suggests borrowing Heil's help. Heil is a special researcher in charge of Sage Tower's Colony operations. Heil has exceptional ability in this type of analysis, but an eccentric personality is a drawback. Heil has released monsters around the laboratory to prevent anyone from entering and block people's access. When I find Heil after fighting my way through the monsters, Heil is amazed that I managed to find them despite being only a rookie trainee. However, when I ask Heil to handle the work, Heil grumbles about why everyone is asking for sample analyses these days. Just as I am about to leave after assigning Heil the task, Heil comes after me and demands that I handle a request as well. Heil says that all the sample analyses have kept them from leaving their post, and asks me to deliver the analysis results for a Zombie blood sample to Bloody Ice in their place. If I accept, Heil mocks me, telling me to be careful and stay alive because an epidemic is spreading in Bloody Ice.

When I visit Officer Henkoff in Bloody Ice at Heil's request, Henkoff is extremely busy with Colony affairs. Recently, after the Thief Guild raided the merchant guilds, personnel from Colony and Polis were assigned to eradicate the thief Guild. With public security weakened, the number of Zombies is rapidly increasing, an epidemic is spreading, and people are disappearing. Henkoff suspected a connection between the growing Zombie population, the epidemic, and the missing people, and had been waiting for the sample analysis results.
When I deliver Heil's report, Henkoff is horrified to learn that infectious agents are present in Zombie blood.

After much deliberation, Henkoff says they do not believe that Zombies spread the epidemic. The reason for the increase in the Zombie population and the whereabouts of the missing people remained unexplained. Unfortunately, Colony had no personnel available to investigate the matter immediately, so Henkoff asks me to investigate Ghost Villa, the Zombies' habitat. In the old, musty villa Henkoff told me about, I find a Beaded Necklace. It was a gift Prewitt made for their niece. Henkoff concludes that the missing epidemic patients are turning into Zombies and tells me that the Colony Alliance and Polis authorities have decided to prevent the epidemic from spreading across Nevareth. The only solution was to burn the camps along with the people who had turned into Zombies or were in the process of mutating. Henkoff says it is unavoidable to protect more lives and hands me a Torch to burn the camps. As I walk through the camps and set them alight, the people who have half-turned into Zombies burn to death.

Once the task of dealing with the Zombies is complete, Henkoff says that you have worked hard and permits you to spend a vacation in Green Despair. Green Despair is a jungle-like place. Officer Shooterburk, whom you meet there, is surprised to learn that “I” carried out the mission decided at the Colony Alliance meeting, but reassures you that you have worked hard. He says that you prevented the tragedy of all Nevareth being overrun by Zombies and saved countless lives. During a brief rest, Shooterburk summons you. An anomaly was occurring in Green Despair as well, with mutated monsters appearing, so the Colony dispatched an expedition team to determine the cause. However, contact with the expedition team was lost. Before disappearing, the expedition team collected and sent samples of Dire Boar and Plant Toad, and was attempting to obtain a sample of Troglo King as its final task. Shooterburk asks you to find the missing expedition team and obtain a sample of Troglo King. Obtaining Troglo King's sample is no problem, but you cannot find the expedition team and return with only its records instead.

After reading the expedition team's journal, Shooterburk finds clues in the records: “soil at the Red Jungle boundary,” “parasitic plants,” and “minerals.” The jungle expedition team had nearly discovered the cause of the jungle mutation. Shooterburk asks you to collect a soil sample at the Red Jungle boundary and have Researcher Heil analyze it together with Troglo King's sample. When it came to sample analysis, no one in Nevareth could surpass Heil.

When you collect the samples and return to Heil, he accepts the request despite grumbling. Based on his analysis, Heil explains that the mutation in Green Despair was caused by parasitic plants in the soil and also teaches you how to stop them. A component contained in the minerals was an especially effective remedy for removing the parasitic plants.

Heil tells you the location of a disused mine in Bloody Ice where you can obtain the minerals. When you go there, you encounter a fallen wizard, who says that they were suddenly attacked and wiped out by monsters from the Plant Clan before dying.
When you return and report the situation, Shooterburk wonders why the wizards wanted to mine the minerals, what they intended to do with them, and why the Plant Clan attacked the wizards. Believing that the anomalies occurring recently on each continent are closely connected, Shooterburk decides that a meeting of the Colony officers must be held. Shooterburk asks you to visit Dunhaik in Desert Scream and deliver the request to hold an officers' meeting.

When you visit him, Dunhaik welcomes you, saying that he had heard about “my” exploits. After hearing Shooterburk's request for a meeting, Dunhaik says that he had already been considering one. Analysis of a previously collected Giant Snake sample has indicated the possibility that wizards were involved in the monsters' mutations. The merchant guild cannot induce monster mutations, but it would not be difficult for wizards. However, there is no conclusive physical evidence.

Dunhaik asks you to search for a group of Dark Mages that appeared in the desert while he is away attending the meeting. Dark Mages refers to wizards who study ancient ruins in secret. Recently, however, several people have disappeared along with the Dark Mages. Dunhaik tells you to question the magic merchant Sullivan.

Magic Merchant Sullivan says that he had heard the rumors but had not taken an interest because there was nothing to gain. Instead, he recommends visiting Armor Merchant Dion. When you visit Armor Merchant Dion, Dion says that he recently spoke with someone whose younger sibling had disappeared after following a Dark Mage. Before disappearing, the missing sibling had murmured, “A new world, a sealed lion.” Dion says that the person may have purchased supplies from the Eileen siblings and tells you to visit them.

Eileen remembered the person whose younger sibling had disappeared. Although the person had not left any special message, Eileen tells you that she had heard rumors that the Dark Mages were looking for something sealed at the ancient ruins. The Dark Mages are said to go around claiming that when the world is destroyed, the only way to be saved is to join them.

While you investigate the Dark Mages, Dunhaik returns from the meeting. Dunhaik informs you that he concluded the Mage Guild was involved in all the anomalies that had occurred so far. However, he was unable to decide on a course of action. When you tell him the results of the investigation into the Dark Mages, Dunhaik senses the presence behind them. “I” feel the omen of something and a sense of being guided by fate, even as fear takes hold.
